Over A Decade of Devotion and Delight

The Cellwen stud has reached a mile stone at its tenth anniversary.  During this time I have had the privilege of owning and breeding many beautiful and charismatic ponies and  meeting some true stars along the way.

I would like to thank all the new, old and current owners of Cellwen ponies, and hope you enjoying them as much as I did.

I would also like to thank the many breeders who have helped me to succeed in breeding a traditional Welsh Mountain Pony true to type and character. I hope to breed these lovely Welsh Mountain Ponies for many years to come, and continue to try my best to produce and improve, the quality and high expectations that these outstanding animals demand and deserve.

After being involved in the breeding of Welsh Cobs under the  Caenant prefix registered to my father in 1998 I decided it was my turn to try and make my mark on the Welsh breed.

However I also came to the conclusion that due to the character and tradition of my surroundings in the Dulais Valley, that the Welsh Mountain Pony would be the section of the stud book to become involved with.

After much research and investigation into the breeding of the mischievous little ponies I decided to base my stud on the Revel breed ponies founded by the late  Mr Emrys Griffiths.

I feel not only are these ponies well bred but contain all the qualities unique to the traditional hill pony which does not only mean great beauty, but strong conformation and exquisite movement with of course the smallest and sweetest head and bold eye which Revel ponies are renowned for possessing.

My ambition for the future of the Cellwen Stud is to breed top quality show ponies of true Welsh type containing the bone, elegance and character of the traditional Welsh hill pony.

History & Inspiration

Most of the ponies at Cellwen stud today are a result of breeding extending back many generation.

All of my ponies ancestry include Clan Pip who was one of the most influential stallion of his time.

A vast number of successful breeders have his bloodlines running through their stock.

As a result of Clan Pips overwhelming accomplishment the overall prominent name in the stud is

Revel Humming Top

I have used a number of sons and daughters of this well know stallion and been very happy with the results,

some of which are:-

Dyfed Scamp

Sire: Revel Humming Top   Dam: Dyfed Sible

Revel Justy

Sire: Revel Humming Top   Dam: Revel Japonica

Scamp is the sire of Dyfed Pollyanna

who is the dam of:

Cellwen Picasso - Stud Stallion

Cellwen Pinin- future broodmare

Revel Justy is sire of Criccieth Bedwyr

who was our senior stud stallion and the sire of most of our youngstock now sold to Finnlea Stud

Revel Provence

Sire: Revel Humming Top   Dam: Revel Petra

Quinton Jason

Sire: Revel Provence   Dam: Quinton Jasmin

Sire of Quinton Jason

Quinton Jason is sire of Cellwen Pebbles our up and coming young broodmnare.

Revel Caberet

Sire: Revel Humming Top   Dam: Revel Cover Girl

Criccieth Wildfire

Sire: Revel Humming Top   Dam: Revel Curtsey

Dam of Criccieth Feather Light

Pictured above with filly foal Cellwen Wisp now sold and also dam of Cellwen Whiplash her remaining daughter at the stud.

Dyfed Curstey

sire: Revel Humming Top   Dam: Dyfed Chance

Curtsey has now been sold to Holland, however her daughter Cellwen Cameo by Dyfed Playwrite remains at the stud

Another huge influence on the Cellwen Stud has been Dyfed Cascade one of the first mares purchased.

A daughter of Dyfed Scamp and dam of Dyfed Cinderella who produced Dyfed Caress by Dyfed Gethyn which I purchased as a foal.

Dyfed Cascade & Filly Foal Cellwen Chorus

Dyfed Cinderella

Sire: Dyfed Scamp   Dam: Dyfed Cascade

Dyfed Caress

Sire: Dyfed Gethyn   Dam: Dyfed Cinderella

Dam of Dyfed Caress

Caress has been a huge asset to the stud she has produced quality youngstock as has now returned to the Dyfed Stud. She is dam of:

Cellwen Crystal by Criccieth Bedwyr (retained)

Cellwen Cassis by Criccieth bedwyr

Cellwen Clio by Penboeth Nap

Dyfed Geraint

Sire: Revel Centre   Dam: Dyfed Gwen

Dyfed Party

Sire: Dyfed Geraint   Dam: Dyfed Playfull

Dyfed Geraint being grandson of Revel Chip and Revel Crusader, and great grandson of Clan Pip is without a doubt a stallion with blue blood.  He has produced top quality stock for many year and is sire of Dyfed Playwrite and Dyfed Party to name a few.

Dyfed Party has helped shape the future of the  Cellwen Stud she continually produced stock of quality and type. Her two remaining   daughters Cellwen Pebbles and Cellwen Penny Perfick are beginning to live up to their dams high expectation.
